When Kjetil Rekdal and Geir Frigård came to Color Line Stadium this summer, it marked the end of a downturn that had lasted at least a year and a half. Aalesund had been relegated from the Eliteserien and started the spring season in the OBOS league in a disastrous way.

As the autumn progressed, it was quite clear what a huge impact head coach Kjetil Rekdal and assistant Geir Frigård had on all parts of the club, in fact the entire city of Ålesund as well.

What was supposed to be a rescue operation turned into something more, from being on the way down into the valley of the shadows, the successful coaching duo has once again blown ambitions into the club.

After five straight wins in the season finale, Aafk landed in 9th place in the OBOS-Liga, a place that seemed unthinkable this summer.

Aafk confirms that Kjetil Rekdal and Geir Frigård have linked up with AaFK for the next two years and invites everyone to a press conference later today.

Pretty sure the Aalesund fans can be thanked, banners that came up in the stands after the survival in the OBOS-League say their thing: “We are ready for world-class coaching”
