On Saturday, Manchester City narrowly progressed in the FA Cup. League One club Leyton Orient held the lead over the reigning Premier League champions until the 56th minute. Only with eleven minutes left on the clock was City saved by the Premier League’s highest paid, Kevin de Bruyne (before a new Haaland contract). Even though this was a cup game and players were rested, there was little resemblance to a club that had spent around £180 million on the January transfer market. This summer comes phase two of the rebuilding of City as an obvious title contender.

According to Caugthoffside’s sources, City are targeting two signings this summer. Not just aiming for it, Guardiola and the gang have positioned themselves to sign two players who will give the club a big boost for the coming season.

Even with 115 accusations of breaching the Financial Fair Play rules, Manchester City continue to act like “this will probably be fine”. The two players who are reported to be heading to City this summer are Fliorian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong. The German international is considered the real big gun on the market and is hunted by the biggest clubs, the Dutchman is also on the wish list of several big clubs.

If City go for the two signings and manage to manoeuvre their way through rules for profitable and financially sustainable club operations, this will mean an additional expense of between 170 and 200 million euros.

Manchester City should not let themselves be hooked by the title race, no matter what the cost.
