It is not easy to keep up with the career development of Jesse Lingard. Hailed as one of Manchester United’s greatest attacking talents, then came the fall of bench life, a move to Nottingham Forest without delivering, and the former England international ended up in the K-League for FC Seoul. All the way, Lingard has nevertheless cashed in gigantic salaries. Then came the desire to return to the ball island, but here the doors were closed. Now it’s off to a new continent.

According to reports, seven clubs – including West Ham, Celtic and Middlesbrough – turned down the opportunity to sign him. Back in December, Lingard agreed to terminate his contract with K League club FC Seoul.

For the past three months, the 33-year-old has been without a contract, but according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Brazilian clubs have taken the bait sent out by Lingard’s agent, with Corinthians close to signing the player with 18 goals in 65 appearances in the South Korean league.

So there was no return to England, but a quick trip to the homeland of samba football will be interesting to follow. Here Lingard should expect more resistance and punch than in the previous league, we hope he is ready for it.
