Fulham striker Harry Wilson has garnered praise from fans and pundits alike for his performances this season – and it has reportedly made Champions League-chasing Aston Villa keep an eye on him for a potential transfer.

The Cottagers star has been at Fulham for five years, and while he has contributed some important goals during their Premier League tenure, he is already on his way to his best season at the top level in terms of productivity – despite the fact that we are still in January.

This has prompted clubs to report their interest in Liverpool academy graduate Wilson, who has a contract that expires at the end of the season. Villa is one of the clubs considering a move for the star with 67 caps on his CV.

BBC writes: Aston Villa “crank in” Harry Wilson – contract talks with Fulham have been paused

The report from BBC Sport states that Wilson’s talks with Fulham over a new deal have been put on hold, against the backdrop of growing Premier League interest in his services after a solid spell in the league.

The “fantastic” Welshman is out of contract at the end of the season, and the Cottagers are yet to reach an agreement on an extension, although they have made the situation a priority.

Wilson has seven goals and four assists in just 21 Premier League appearances this season, making him one of the leading stars in a season that has produced several surprising names.

It is believed that Wilson would prefer to have “clarity” on Marco Silva’s future before committing to a new deal, especially since the Portuguese manager has said that there is “zero chance” of Wilson being sold in the coming weeks.

However, this has not stopped other clubs from expressing interest. Aston Villa are one of them, with Unai Emery’s men monitoring his situation ahead of the February 2 deadline. Tammy Abraham is also expected to sign during that time.

A number of English and European clubs are expected to join the race for Wilson’s signature if he leaves the club on a free transfer, while Fulham have held talks with Manchester City over a transfer for Oscar Bobb in case Wilson disappears.

If the Norwegian moves to the capital, it would free up even more reason for Wilson to leave.

But the Ivorian has been disappointing this season, as have loan signings Jadon Sancho and Harvey Elliott.

This would create a clear path for Wilson to shine in the West Midlands.
