BBC Sport has something to brag about. The station announced that it broke the viewership record. This year’s Wimbledon final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz has become the most watched match on the show since the event’s final in 2016.

Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz played in the final of this year’s Wimbledon. Djokovic was in contention for his eighth Wimbledon title and equaling Roger Federer in terms of wins in that tournament. For Carlos Alcaraz, it was his debut in the Wimbledon final. Alcaraz defeated Djokovic in five sets.

The Alcaraz vs. Djokovic match was followed by the whole world. In the royal box located on the stands of the Wimbledon main court, the rivalry was watched by the heirs of the British throne, Prince William and Princess Kate, and the King of Spain, keeping his fingers crossed for his compatriot, Alcaraz. It turns out that the duel aroused so much interest that it became the most watched match on BBC Sport since the Wimbledon final in 2016, in which Briton Andy Murray played.

BBC Sport reported that this year’s Wimbledon men’s final was watched by 11.3 million viewers.
