Garnacho was at Stamford Bridge on Saturday to watch Enzo Maresca’s side beat Fulham 2-0 in the Premier League, suggesting that the move to the Club World Cup holders was imminent.

The

21-year-old’s move to Chelsea has now been confirmed, and he has joined the capital club for a fee of £40m, making him the ninth signing in a busy summer for the Blues.

The deal includes a 10% resale clause and it is the fourth-largest sale in Manchester United’s history after Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku and Angel Di Maria, while his departure counts as pure profit under the Premier League’s rules around profit and sustainability, making it a lucrative deal for the Red Devils.

“It’s an incredible moment for my family and me to join this big club. I can’t wait to get started. I watched the Club World Cup, and it’s special to be with the world champions – we’re the best team in the world! It’s fantastic to be here and I’m very happy,” Garnacho told Chelsea’s official website after the transfer was confirmed.

Chelsea sign Garnacho from Manchester United in £40 million deal

Garnacho could make his debut for Chelsea in their Premier League clash against Brentford on September 13.

However, it will take some time for the attacker to be up to full speed, as he hasn’t played a competitive match since the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.

Garnacho was left out of Manchester United’s final game of the 2025-26 Premier League season against Aston Villa, and he was not involved in the preparations for the new season after his altercation with Ruben Amorim.

The attacker lashed out at Amorim after he was left out of the starting line-up for the Europa League final, and his agent and brother also had strong words for Manchester United’s head coach.

Amorim informed Garnacho just after he was free to leave the club this summer, as the former Atletico Madrid player was not part of the Portuguese’s future plans.

Will Garnacho flourish for Chelsea in the coming years?

In football, there are no guarantees, but Chelsea will believe they have struck a good deal by signing a 21-year-old with 144 first-team appearances to their name for £40 million.

Garnacho managed 26 goals and 22 assists during his time in Manchester United’s first team, including 11 goals and 10 assists in 58 appearances in all competitions last season.

The striker has the potential to become a star for Chelsea in the coming seasons, but there were off-pitch concerns during his time at Old Trafford, and it is far from certain that Stamford Bridge will give him his happy ending.
