Alejandro Garnacho reacted after Manchester United’s loss in the Europa League final to Tottenham.

Manchester United are for the first time in over a decade not qualified for any European competitions.

Alejandro Garnacho’s time at Manchester United seems to be over after Wednesday’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham.

Garnacho was a surprising absentee in Ruben Amorim’s starting eleven, but when he came onto the pitch he showed exactly the attacking sharpness Manchester United had been missing in his absence.

After the game, the Argentine striker made covert criticism of Amorim in his post-match comments, while his brother and agent definitely didn’t hold back on Instagram – with a post that probably went down very badly at Old Trafford.

Garnacho’s statements
“Before the final, I played every game, I helped the team,” Garnacho told the media. “Today I got to play 20 minutes…”

“Could it affect my future? The game has a meaning, but the whole season was shit and the situation in the club…”

“I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens next.”

Amorim’s response
Amorim was asked about these comments at his press conference.

The United coach replied: “It’s easy to say that now. Who missed a clear chance in the first half of the semi-final? Garnacho. That’s football.”

What did Garnacho’s brother say?
The tension between the parties has clearly flared up, and the situation was not helped by the fact that Garnacho’s brother and agent, Robert, took to Instagram to give his version of the case.

“Working like no one else, helping out in every game, scoring two goals in the last two finals, only to get 19 minutes on the pitch and be thrown under the bus. Wow!” he wrote.

Previous conflicts
This is not the first time Amorim and Garnacho have had conflicts. The pair were already arguing in December before the Manchester derby – an episode that also became famous for triggering Marcus Rashford’s departure from the club.

Garnacho may have been able to hold out a little longer, but this latest feud with Amorim will only lead to new transfer speculation. In January, he was linked with both Atlético Madrid and Chelsea.

Key points:

  • Garnacho unhappy with limited playing time in final
  • Brother/agent attacks Amorim on social media
  • Previous conflicts between player and coach
  • Transfer speculation is expected to increase
