For every single game that Alexander Isak plays, it will be more difficult and not least more expensive to bring him out from Newcastle.
In Newcastle’s 3-0 win over Wolverhamton at St. James’ Park with his two goals after 34 and 57 minutes, he breaks club legend Alan Shearer’s record of goals in eight consecutive Premier League games. The Premier League record is held by Jamie Vardy with goals in eleven consecutive PL games in 2015.
Only four players have scored in eight consecutive Premier League games or more: in addition to Vardy and Isak, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Daniel Sturridge.
Alexander Isak was a question mark ahead of Newcastle’s home game against Wolverhampton after stretching his hamstring against Arsenal a week ago. When the starting eleven was presented, however, it was clear that the Swede would lead the attack again. And it should be noticed that Isak was on the field this evening.
After 33 minutes, Isak found the net when he made it 1-0 for Newcastle with a long-range shot that went into the net via Wolves player Rayan Ait-Nouri.
“Newcastle take the lead and guess who!? Yep… Isaac! Not the prettiest of his finishes, but it came…” wrote Sky Sports broadcaster Keith Downie.
In the 57th minute, Isak struck again when he increased the lead to 2-0. He was free in the 16-meter box and placed the ball skillfully in the net after an assist from Bruno Guimaraes. Alexander Isak, with his 15 Premeier League goals of the season, is in third place, one goal behind Erling Braut Haaland and three behind Mohamed Salah.
“He’s done it again! What a player Newcastle have on their hands,” Downie commented.
Isak’s second goal of the night was his 46th in the Premier League.
In the 74th minute, Isak was involved in another goal when he played Anthony Gordon to make it 3-0 inside the 16-yard box. A VAR review was necessary to ensure that Isak was onside in the build-up to the goal, which was eventually confirmed.
Immediately after scoring, Isak was substituted to a standing ovation from the home crowd. The game ended 3-0 and Newcastle thus reached the club record of nine consecutive wins in all competitions.
