After the La Liga game against Barcelona last week, where Alexander Sørloth came on after the hour with Atletico’s ten men on the pitch, we thought it was pointless use of the Norwegian super striker. Barcelona won 2-1. Diego Simeone did exactly the same in Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final against the same opponent, but Sørloth was given an offensive “killer” role this time that he masters better than anyone else in Spain. It gave victory!

The Norwegian international striker sat on the bench for an hour, with a 0-1 lead to Atletico Madrid after scoring by Julian Alvarez, the game stood and tilted. Sørloth needed ten minutes to decide it all.

We call Sørloth “the Barcelona killer” not without reason. In the Real Sociedad, Villareal and Atletico shirts, the 30-year-old had six goals against Barcelona before Wednesday’s game. On Wednesday, Sørloth steered in the cross from mateo Ruggeri in the 70th minute with one touch and raw power in the duel – for his 7th goal against the La Liga giant.

With a 0-2 win, this was Atletico Madrid’s first win at Camp Nou in 20 years! 25 games without a win, then Alvarez and Sørloth fight in goals for a historic victory.
