Ange Postecoglou had a euphoric celebration with the Tottenham players after the Europa League title last month. Then followed a few weeks of uncertainty, so modest that he did not have the confidence to lead Spurs next season. Enter Thomas Frank, a genius Premier League coach for his performances with “miniputt” Brentford. At Tottenham, the Dane faces a major problem that overshadows everything that led the club to a horribly weak 17th place in the Premier League.
Because when Frank is confirmed as the new Tottenham coach, he encounters an ice front in the dressing room. The dismissal of Postecoglou was definitely not the will of the players, quite the opposite. The players greatly “adored” and respected the Australian, even when results and performances increased the pressure on them, which was best shown in public with the numerous messages on social media from Postecoglou’s players in support.

After Postecoglou’s dismissal was confirmed, reports of discontent among the players soon followed. Some are even said to have considered their future because of the dismissal. Vice-captain Cristian Romero, who was named Europa League Player of the Season, was reportedly keen to stay at Spurs if Postecoglou had stayed, but could now be aiming for a move to Atletico Madrid.
Frank needs to rectify that, get the more experienced players in his new team back on the offside and convince them that they will be stronger going forward. If Tottenham are to rise again in the Premier League, there must be mutual respect between coach and players. Everything else becomes secondary.
