Valencia has this season been La Liga’s previously successful club that has struggled the most. Then came one win after another in the last month, and suddenly 12th place in the table and eight points above the relegation line. On Saturday came victories against Sevilla, for Ørjan Nyland this means a new coach.
The Norwegian national team goalkeeper was brought from RB Leipzig to Sevilla in 2023, Nyland has played his way to the obvious position as the first goalkeeper at the proud club. In March, the club won a strong victory against Real Sociedad, but this has been followed up with four losses in a row. First Ahtletic Club, then city rival Real Betis, Atletico Madrid and on Saturday Valencia.

Nyland had an almost perfect game as the last defender, where clearances and saves came on a continuous basis from the Norwegian national team goalkeeper, but it still did not save Sevilla:
Sevilla brought in Javier Garcia Pimienta as coach in June 2024, but the 50-year-old will not be able to finish the season. When Valencia also took three points from Sevilla and passed the club in the table, the club board said stop.
On Sunday, Sevilla confirmed Pimienta has been fired. For Nyland, whose contract expires in 2026, this will be another new coach.
Not so dramatic perhaps, but when Nyland has already played under five different coaches since 2023, it tells of a chaotic situation at the seven-time Europa League champion, to say the least.
