When Martin Ødegaard was out injured, things “unraveled” for Arsenal. The captain is well back, the results came directly, but now the London club are in a dip in form – with the captain on the pitch. On Sunday, it was a pale version of Ødegaard who had to realize that Manchester United are coming up from kneeling for advancement in the FA Cup at the expense of Arsenal. After the game, the Arsenal supporters had more to think about.
It was an entertaining and nerve-wracking match between the big clubs, which ended in a penalty shootout and reigning FA Cup champions United progressed to the 4th round. Tough for the Arsenal supporters, it also didn’t help that Gabriel Jesus had to be carried off the pitch.
With this, the injury list at the Gunners grows, victories must be secured in the Premier League to deprive Liverpool of the lead of at least six points. Fortunately for Arsenal, we are in the middle of the transfer window and the possibility of reinforcements is open.
Arsenal supporters have been asking for a striker and goal guarantor for several seasons, and players such as Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres have been heavily linked to the club. The Gunners fans who have seen the club fork out huge sums of money in recent years to sign the best definitely didn’t like what they heard from Arteta, the hour after the loss to United and Gabriel Jesus out injured.
“We are always working to try to improve our team, but it has to be possible within our resources and with players who can make us better,” Arteta told Sky Sports.
Then it comes.
“We’re nowhere near anything (signing) and we’re focusing on the players we have,” the Arsenal manager said.
