Barcelona have no choice, they have to find a replacement for Danish Andreas Christensen who will be out of action for a long time.

Hans Flick’s side are at the top of the La Liga table and after Sunday’s 0-2 win over Villarreal at the Estadio de la Cerámica they cement their lead. Before kick-off, the club confirmed to one of their managers that they have suffered a serious injury defeat that could keep him out for the rest of the season.

Former Chelsea star Andreas Christensen is set up for a long stay on the sidelines after the club confirmed that he suffered a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament in training.

The Danish international has been an important player for the Catalan side this season, which means that the January window could be used to find a replacement.

That could be bad news for Liverpool, as reports suggest that Barcelona will turn their attention to luring Marc Guehi to the Camp Nou.

Guehi saw a move to Liverpool on the final day of the transfer window collapse in the final minutes, having already undergone a medical test for a move to Anfield, and has confirmed that he will not sign a new deal at Crystal Palace until his current deal expires in the summer.

All the top clubs have been linked with a move for the England international, and Team Talk suggests that a January bid from Barcelona is not unthinkable.

Despite their financial problems, a £17 million bid could be made to tempt the centre-back to Spain. Liverpool’s proposed deal this summer is believed to have been around £35 million.

Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, also mentioned Guehi by name during an interview with Spanish radio station SER Catalunya and described the centre-back as a “good player”.

Liverpool have also been linked with a January move to beat the competition to sign the defender when he becomes a free player in the summer.

However, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner believes that their club captain is likely to complete his deal at Selhurst Park and not leave in the new year.

He said, “I think Marc will stay until the end of the season.”

“That’s my understanding now. No one has told me otherwise.”

“I know there’s no offer right now, so why expect anything else?”

Guehi is expected to be a key player during England’s World Cup campaign, which will only intensify interest in his signature.
