The 37-year-old Argentine right winger Angel Di Maria leaves Benfica, who finished second in the Portuguese league behind Sporting.

Di Maria started his career at Rosario Central, before his professional football career took him to Benfica, Real Madrid, Manchester United, PSG and Juventus. – In the summer of 2023, he was back at Benfica on a free transfer from Juventus.

Algel Di Maria has won the World Cup with Argentina, the Champions League and La Liga with Real Madrid, Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain five times plus a bunch of cups.

“It hurts a lot to end like this after a long year. This was my last league game in this shirt and I’m proud to have been able to wear it again,” Di Maria writes on Instagram.

Benfica will face Sporting in the Portuguese Cup final next week.

“There is another final waiting for us on Sunday, and we will do everything we can to win it,” writes Di Maria.

Maisfutebol recently reported that Di Maria wants to return to Argentine side Rosario Central, where he has a past, but that could well wait a while. The 2022 World Cup hero has also been linked with Inter Miami, where compatriot Lionel Messi plays.
