When Ajer chose Brentford in 2021 as the next club after the round at Celtic, we called the club choice “the perfect one”. With Thomas Frank at the helm, the small club established itself in the Premier League – and did well against the giants. Now is the time for the 27-year-old to find the next “perfect”.
Because it hasn’t gone quite as planned for the Norwegian international in London. Periods out with injuries and lack of playing time, both with Frank and now playing time crumbs with Keith Andrews as coach. Ståle Solbakken recently encouraged Ajer to find a new club in a different league that better suits his physique and style of play.

Now Solbakken’s wish may soon be fulfilled. According to Sky Sports, Wolfsburg are chasing an Ajer transfer. The Bundesliga club is said to have well into £13 million bid for the Norwegian centre-back this summer, but the bid was rejected. Now the media reports Wolfsburg director Peter Christiansen is ready to resume negotiations and send a new offer in January.
This is a club that really needs the Norwegian centre-back monument – and quickly. We think Ajer will fit well into the Bundesliga, for a proper run-up to the World Cup (because that’s where we’re going).
