Everyone knew it was a Portuguese who had to put a lid on his emotions when he had microphones stuck up in front of him after the loss at Old Trafford against Brighton. Amorim himself called it “Manchester United’s worst team” to give the journalists his headline, but couldn’t hide the fact that the start of what was supposed to be a Premier League adventure for the successful manager has become a true football nightmare. A TV screen is said to have made few people feel Amorim’s temperament, as he did not put a lid on his feelings.

It is The Athletic who have obtained the version from several anonymous sources (of course) that Amorim is said to have become so angry in the dressing room after the Brighton loss that he had melted to a TV screen that is used to review pre-match tactics. The outburst is said to have shocked several of the players who were present in the dressing room, it is said.

This was Amorim’s 15th fight with only a third of wins, no wonder he reacted behind closed doors. But as he has now realized, at Manchester United there are never any closed doors, “anonymous sources” ensure that little is kept secret at one of the world’s biggest clubs.

Last time there was talk of a leak of the starting line-up against City the day before the game, now an outburst Amorim is probably not so proud of afterwards.

And the TV? A new TV screen will be in place for Thursday’s game against the Rangers.
