Liverpool players who have left Anfield in the last three or four years often have something in common. Because unlike Manchester United players who leave the club and get an impressive boost in performance, such as Scott McTominay and several others, former Liverpool players struggle to settle in outside Anfield. We have seen it with Wijnaldum, Naby Keita, Firmino, Oxlade-Chamberlain – and not least Divock Origi. The latter is now in a leaden period, which only continues.
Divock Origi will never be forgotten by Liverpool fans. The Belgian striker never played a central role for Jürgen Klopp, but was the player who came on the match scene and decided big games. His goals against Barcelona in the 2019 Champions League and in the final against Tottenham gave Origi cult status in the red part of Liverpool. Then it is sad to see the Champions League hero spend his working day on the B team of a Serie A club.

In 2022, Origi was done at Anfield and signed with AC Milan. Here his career took a significant turn. In the 2022/23 season, the striker scored just two goals in Serie A, before being loaned to Nottingham Forest the following season.
The Belgian did not find a foothold in England either, and since then he has been stranded at AC Milan. And by that we mean literally stranded.
Origi hasn’t played for Milan’s first team for 17 months, and there is no sign of a change for the better. According to Tuttosport, AC Milan and Origi have had talks about a possible contract termination, but the parties are far apart. The Italian media reports that the tax rules in Italy make it difficult to reach an agreement on a termination of the agreement.

All indications are that Origi will stay out of his contract – and will primarily be used in AC Milan’s B team until next summer. Heavy lead for Liverpool’s Champions League hero.
