Federico Chiesa was brought to Anfield with expectations of becoming a long-term part of the Liverpool machine under Arne Slot. Injuries and a level of physicality have made Slot choose other options on the wing. This winter, the Italian was heavily linked with a return to Serie A on loan, but stayed. Now the next step is being negotiated again for the 27-year-old – who will not stay at Anfield.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli are negotiating with Liverpool about Chiesa’s return to Serie A. Conte and the gang want an option to buy in the contract, while Liverpool are demanding a commitment to a permanent transfer next summer.

The parties are thus a long way from a final agreement, but the Italian media reports that the dialogue is positive. Thus, it looks like Chiesa will end up on 13 games in red, only three from the start.

In Italy, the winger still has a high star, with two Coppa Italia titles with Juventus and as one of the big stars of the Italian national team that won the European Championship title in 2021.

Then we will see if Liverpool accept Napoli’s demand for the right of return after the season. Given Chiesa’s injury history and lack of playing time, Napoli will probably test the 27-year-old before a permanent transfer. The same probably requires other suitors as well.
