When Federico Chiesa sat on the plane that was heading down to the landing pad at the airport in Liverpoool, a picture was posted from the airport management. A major event that had to be documented all the way. Almost four months later, Liverpool supporters have seen 78 minutes of Chiesa football. Not exactly much to cheer about for the player, supporters or the club. Arne Slot admits he is struggling to use the former Juventus player.
Liverpool are surging in the Premier League and Champions League, and the team is doing fine without the energetic Italian, but the season is long and it was a big plan with Chiesa as part of Liverpool’s attacking machinery. After some injury and illness, Chiesa is ready to return, but Slot doesn’t quite know when to use the wing.
“Federico has missed quite a bit for a while. He was sick last week, so we’ll have to wait and see how exactly he feels. Maybe Chiesa can be included in the squad, but it depends on the ones we have available and how he recovers from the illness,” Slot begins, according to the BBC.
“What makes it difficult is that we play so many games. He needs match practice, and the problem is that if you haven’t played for five or six months, it’s difficult for a coach to give him minutes, as you don’t know what to expect exactly. I see him on the training ground, but ideally I see him in a friendly or at an U21 game, but that’s not the situation we’re in because we play so many games,” the Liverpool manager said.
Has played too little to get playing time. Sounds like Federico Chiesa will have a challenging few months ahead at England’s best club.
