Arne Slot has failed the first of three tests, largely thanks to a “brain-dead” Liverpool player, and the chances of the Dutchman being sacked have now skyrocketed.

Liverpool took a two-goal lead early in the second half against Leeds United on Saturday, but in reality they could have scored 12 goals and still not won.

There are too many players in this Liverpool team who are not fit for purpose at the moment, and the biggest culprit is Ibrahima Konaté.

The helpless Frenchman – who has arguably been Liverpool’s worst player this season – started Leeds’ comeback for no reason with a disastrous tackle on Wilfried Gnonto.

After a VAR review, a penalty was awarded, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin did not miss the penalty spot.

Leeds quickly equalised when Liverpool collapsed faster than a recliner. Dominik Szoboszlai – Liverpool’s only real ray of light this season – put the Reds back in the lead, but those who have followed Slot’s team this season knew they weren’t going to hold on to it.

And late into injury time, Liverpool made the same mistakes they always make, conceding their 10th goal from set-pieces this season to give Leeds a 3-3 draw.

Liverpool are not yet ready to press the panic button and fire Slot.

However, this did not mean that the club’s managers are happy with what they are seeing, and sources stressed that the results MUST be improved and victories – especially in the next three games – must be achieved.

The first of this triple of tests came today, and Liverpool and Slot collapsed in spectacular fashion.

Slot, in particular, did not cover himself with glory by continuing to start with Konaté and bench Mohamed Salah for the third game in a row.

As a result, the pressure on Slot to deliver a win in their next game against Inter Milan and when they return to Premier League action next weekend against Brighton has increased considerably.
