Barcelona desperately tried to sign Williams last summer, but their pursuit was ultimately unsuccessful. This process left the Catalan club uncertain about a future attempt to sign the Athletic Club winger, but new developments could now make them change their minds.
Nico Williams will join Barcelona this summer
According to MD, Williams is now desperate to join Barcelona this summer, and this was conveyed to sporting director Deco through his representatives during a meeting on Friday.
Williams has been linked with a number of top clubs in Europe in recent months, with Bayern Munich being the current favourite to sign him. But this stance of a Barcelona switch could put the reigning La Liga champions in the driver’s seat – even if they are still prioritising Díaz for now.
Hansi Flick has already spoken to Williams
According to Jijantes, Barcelona’s head coach Hansi Flick has already spoken to Williams, the conversation revolved around his role in the sporting project if he were to move from Athletic.
Barcelona had bad feelings after Williams’ decision to turn down a switch last summer, but with these new developments 12 months later, it will be interesting to see how much movement there will be to revive the operation. For now, it remains to be seen how this will develop.
