Arsenal are expected to win the battle for the signing of Euro 2024 hero Martin Zubimendi, despite Real Madrid’s strenuous attempts to hijack the deal.
Arsenal are closing in on a summer transfer for Zubimendi.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Zubimendi is increasing in intensity, with the midfielder’s representatives flying to London for further discussions with the club’s management a few days ago.

Real Madrid themselves have pushed hard to persuade Zubimendi to join them. They are looking to sign a top central midfielder this summer due to Luka Modrić’s age and the uncertainty surrounding the future of other players.
But the feeling in both Spanish and English media is that Arsenal are still expected to sign Zubimendi this summer.
David Ornstein has recently stated that Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign Zubimendi, something that is also shared in Spain.
It is understood that Arsenal are willing to double Zubimendi’s salary and have reached an agreement on a four-year contract. (As of today, 3 million euros) Zubimendi was close to a move to Liverpool last summer, and the Reds are still admirers of the Basque star.
Zubimendi had a fantastic Euro 2024 when Spain won the championship, and he was considered by many to be the key player in that 2-1 win over England in the final. The midfielder came into the break with the score 0-0 and immediately changed the game.
Zubimendi has spent his entire career at Real Sociedad, where he has made 226 appearances and scored 10 goals. He won the Copa del Rey in 2020. Previously, he played for Real Sociedad B team, where he recorded 50 appearances and four goals.
He has played 16 caps for Spain, where he helped win both Euro 2024 and the Nations League last year. He has scored one goal.
