Tottenham reportedly made a £70m bid for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi at the end of the transfer window, but it was quickly rejected. This has clearly not scared Arsenal, because now a plan is being made that is influenced by several factors.
Spanish media reports Real Madrid are now not only considering William Saliba signing, but have put Arsenal’s defensive general as their top priority. The London club will do everything possible to keep one of the Premier League’s best centre-backs, but according to former Man United scout Mick Brown, they have the plan to secure a replacement who can match Saliba.
There are not many players who are in the same division as the 23-year-old Saliba, one of the few in the Premier League is Tottenham goalkeeper Marc Guehi.
According to Brown, Arsenal will go all in if Saliba disappears to the San Bernabeu.
“Ideally, they want to keep Saliba at the club, but he is a top target for Real Madrid. That will be bad news for Crystal Palace, because Arsenal will look at Marc Guehi,” Brown begins to Football-Insider.
“He would be the perfect option to play in there, he’s an England international with a lot of Premier League experience, he’s very good on the ball, he’s extremely consistent, and he’s a leader,” the former United chief scout continues.
“Of course, Palace don’t want to see him go, because he’s their captain and he’s a very important player for them, but looking at his contract situation and the type of clubs that are interested in him, it looks more likely that he will make a move to one of the bigger clubs. So if Saliba goes to Real Madrid, I expect Guehi to be Arsenal’s top target to replace him,” Brown concludes.
