This summer, Mundo Deportivo reported that clubs were queuing up to sign Jules Koundé from Barcelona. The La Liga giant went against announced emergency sales of players to maneuver within La Liga’s requirements for sustainable operations, but the 26-year-old was not “sacrificed”. Manchester United and Chelsea were linked with the former Sevilla player, but now another London club is advancing as the most attacking suitor.
Koundé was brought to Barcelona in 2022 for €50 million and has continued to perform at the top level in his centre-back or right-back position. According to Catalan media El Nacional, a €40 million bid from Arsenal has been reported.
The Spanish media claim Mikel Arteta has singled out Koundé as one of the last defensive pieces needed to lead the club all the way to the trophy table in the Premier League.
40 million is a solid offer, but Barcelona are unlikely to sell the 26-year-old at a loss if they are not forced. The defender’s performances with 112 appearances in a Barca shirt have also sent his market value up to €55 million (transfermarkt).
Arsenal will probably have to jack up their bid if they are to give Arteta his French international.
