Arsenal will turn their attention to Crystal Palace striker Eberechi Eze as soon as they have completed the signing of Viktor Gyökeres.

Gyökeres on his way to London
Gunners is reportedly on the verge of presenting Gyökeres as the newest player in Mikel Arteta’s squad, after reaching an agreement with Sporting Lisbon for a transfer fee of £54.8m (€63.5m) plus £8.74m (€10m) in bonuses.

According to reports, the Swede arrived in London on Friday to complete the mandatory medical test before the transfer.

Eze next on the list
The Independent reports that Arsenal’s recruitment staff will turn their attention to Palace’s Eze immediately after the Gyökeres signing is confirmed.

Although the club has not yet made “formal contact” with Palace, they are preparing to act “quickly” to secure the England international.

Arsenal
want to negotiate a sum of £60m (paid in three instalments of £20m) rather than trigger Eze’s alleged £68m release clause.

There is speculation that the club could sell a player before they intensify their pursuit of Eze, but any transfer is not dependent on departures.

Winger Reiss Nelson could be offered as part of the deal, although he is also linked with a return to Fulham after last year’s loan.

Eze prefers Arsenal
Eze, who has a contract until 2027, has also been linked with Chelsea and Tottenham. However, according to sources, the Palace star prefers a move to the Emirates Stadium.

The player’s representatives are confident that an agreement can be reached between all parties.

Tactical flexibility
The creative midfielder will be able to:

  • Compete with captain Martin Ødegaard for a place in a central role
  • Alternatively, use on the left wing instead of Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard or Noni Madueke
