Arsenal are strongly considering making an effort to sign Sporting CP’s sensational Ivan Fresneda this summer, while interest in Ben White is high, according to Caught Offside.

The Gunners have had a remarkable season so far, with Mikel Arteta being able to make use of one of Europe’s best squads for various situations, with several options for each position depending on the scenario.

Jurriën Timber and William Saliba have solidified their places as regular starters on the right side of defence at the Emirates Stadium, and that has led to limited opportunities for former England international White, opening the door for a possible farewell in the summer.

At the same time, an injured captain in Martin Ødegaard has created challenges. – Arsenal still went into the national team with a 9-point margin to Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

Arsenal aim for Ben White replacement

White, who signed for the Gunners for £50m from Brighton back in 2021, has struggled with a number of injury issues so far this season, limiting him to just 19 appearances across all competitions, with just five appearances to start in the Premier League.

As a result, the 28-year-old is now in the running for a number of European clubs, and Arsenal are said to be open to making a deal that allows him to leave for a fee in the region of £30 million. White is not currently pushing for a transfer, as his attention is solely focused on the rest of the season.

However, Arsenal are already planning to replace him should he leave, and Sporting CP star Fresneda has emerged as a top target for the London club.

Arsenal have had a long-standing interest in the Spaniard, who is one of the fastest players in the Champions League, and they see him as the perfect profile to come in at right-back and compete with Timber for game time.

The 21-year-old does not have Premier League experience, which may initially work against him, but Sporting are not expected to put obstacles in the way if an acceptable bid comes in, which could make the transfer easier for Arsenal to complete.

Fresneda has been a highly regarded talent for a number of seasons now, but he has not made the step at Sporting as many expected.

Young, modern right-back with strong defensive positioning and attacking instincts. Good speed, stamina, ball progression and potential for crossing. Less experienced at the elite level than White and may need time to adjust. Can be a long-term upgrade, but not an immediate replacement.
