Several top clubs are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper this summer, and Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier has had one of the most impressive seasons in Europe this season. The 23-year-old has a contract until 2027, and after previous experience with players who have let their contracts expire, it would not be surprising if Les Dogues are willing to start negotiations.

Information from Caught Offside reveals that Aston Villa have been the first to get in touch regarding Chevalier. It looks like they are going to sell Emiliano Martinez this summer, and sporting director Monchi has already contacted the French club and indicated that they are willing to bid €47.5 million for the Chevalier. Previous reports have suggested that Lille will demand at least €40 million to let him go. – So it should be within the scope!

Manchester United interested in Chevalier
Another Premier League club that could make a significant bid is Manchester United, who are themselves on the hunt for a replacement for André Onana this summer. However, they cannot offer Chevalier European football this season either.

Chevalier could be on his way to England.

Barcelona have Chevalier on their shortlist
It has been known since the middle of this season that Chevalier is on Barcelona’s shortlist, although the Blaugrana only recently decided to chase a new goalkeeper. They are in the middle of a hot battle to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia – Manchester United are also interested in him – but if they fail to secure a deal for Garcia, they could turn their attention to the Chevalier.

Does Barcelona have the budget to match their ambitions?
Barcelona continue to be linked with transfers for Marcus Rashford and Luis Díaz on the attacking front, while their two options for Garcia are believed to be Chevalier and Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen. However, the latest news that they are unlikely to come within their salary cap again this summer makes it unlikely that they can afford most of those deals, even if Garcia’s €25 million buyout clause makes him more affordable.
