One of the world’s best managers, Unai Emery, is increasingly likely to leave Aston Villa this summer in what would be a big surprise, according to Football Insider.
The Spaniard has done a remarkable job since replacing Steven Gerrard as manager back in November 2022. He took them to the Champions League last season and is once again fighting to qualify for Europe’s biggest club competition this season, despite a number of financial constraints on his team.

Emery signed a new long-term contract at Villa Park in May 2024, which extended his stay at the club until 2029. However, it has now emerged that he is on his way to an exit at the end of the season.
Emery is becoming increasingly frustrated with the financial constraints imposed by the club on him and his squad, and is now considering leaving the role at the end of the season.
Last summer, Villa were forced to sell homegrown Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle for £40 million to balance their accounts, before selling Evann Guessand and Donyell Malen in January. Meanwhile, the club has regularly been limited to loan deals for their purchases, with the likes of Marco Asensio, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Douglas Luiz all arriving on a temporary basis in recent windows. – More against Unai Emery’s wishes.
Now it is understood that there are some crucial weeks ahead of us as he decides what he wants to do next season, which puts Villa in a difficult position when it comes to planning for the future.
In February, it was reported that the club would again be fined by UEFA, despite making a profit last season, because they violated UEFA’s rules on squad costs.
Clubs competing in UEFA competitions are restricted to spending no more than 70% of their earnings on wages, transfer fees and agent fees, and it is claimed that Villa may have exceeded this.

Aston Villa can’t afford to lose Emery
Considering the job Emery has done for Villa since he arrived, the club must do absolutely everything they can to ensure that he is still in the coaching trench next season.
Qualifying for the Champions League for next season will undoubtedly be a big boost to their financial situation and help alleviate some of the problems. But the board must also ensure that the manager is supported in the transfer market so that he can compete at the highest level.
Aston Villa are currently in 4th place in the Premier League.
