Martin Ødegaard came on a permanent transfer to Arsenal and within one season emerged as one of the Premier League’s best playmakers and finishers. For several months, there were statements from Arsenal supporters thanking Real Madrid for “the big steal”. Aston Villa are now trying to make a copy.
Arda Güler was brought as a teenager to Real Madrid, in the summer of 2023. As with Ødegaard, it has been almost impossible to play his way into Carlo Ancelotti. 1530 minutes in a year and a half is not much to brag about for the 20-year-old, who is a given on the Turkish national team with 19 games and 4 goals.

Although Güler himself is interested in fighting for playing time, the 20-year-old is heavily linked to the Premier League on loan. Now, Aston Villa director Monchi confirms they are interested in signing the Turkish midfielder/winger.
-I know him well because he is a player that all sports directors have followed in their careers in Turkey. He is a player who met a number of requirements and could be attractive to Aston Villa because we were looking for that position. It’s not the same position as Marcos Asensio, but we’re more or less looking for that profile between the lines, and who can play on the outside and who can play like one can even play in,” Monchi begins, according to Marca.
“Personally, I think he is a player with very good technical skills, and I also think he has personality; he shows it when he plays for the national team. There, he takes on roles that are not related to his age,” Aston Villa’s sporting director said, according to Marca.

Monchi knows Villa will be in a strong position if a Güler on loan gets a taste of plenty of playing time in the world’s toughest league and the prospects for playing time at Real Madrid do not improve.
Aston Villa are eager to copy the “Martin Ødegaard success”.
