Atlético Madrid are not holding back and are aiming to complete three top signings before the transfer window closes.

The club is preparing an ambitious boost in the transfer market with a total investment of €132 million to secure three strategic reinforcements: Jesús Areso, Ademola Lookman and Cristian ‘Cuti’ Romero. The board wants to give Diego Simeone a strengthened and more versatile team for the coming season, where the goal is to fight for titles both in Spain and Europe. The hunt for these players is already underway, with the club working to finalize the deals in the short term.

Three big goals for Atlético

Jesús Areso
The first step will be a strengthening at right-back, where Jesús Areso is the first choice. The Osasuna player’s release clause is for €12 million, a sum Atlético are willing to pay to cover a possible absence of Nahuel Molina, who could be loaned to Villarreal. Areso, with experience from La Liga and an attacking style of play that suits Simeone, is seen as a safe choice for a key role in the team.

Ademola Lookman
On the attacking front, the club is focusing on Ademola Lookman, one of Atalanta’s most prominent players and a key figure in last year’s Europa League season. Atlético are willing to spend €40 million for the Nigerian striker, who will bring creativity and goals to an attack that already has Antoine Griezmann, Julián Álvarez and Alexander Sorloth. The transfer will not be easy due to interest from other clubs, but the player’s desire to try out in La Liga speaks for Atlético.

Cuti Romero
Finally, and most costly, is the hunt for Cuti Romero. The Argentine centre-back from Tottenham is wanted to strengthen the defence with authority and leadership skills – a signing Atlético are ready to pay 80 million euros for. His arrival will give ‘Cholo’ Simeone a top defender essential for Champions League championship play.

A more competitive team

With these three signings, Atlético aim to build a team that can fight on all fronts, and not settle for third place in the fight for the league title.
