Hailed by Arsenal supporters as the club’s biggest star. Then came the 2021/22 season and there was a full-blown argument with the coach. The January market opened up for a quick exit from the Gunners, Barcelona opened the door, but closed it again after only six months. Then Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang surprisingly returned to London and Arsenal rival Chelsea. Now the 36-year-old talks about what he describes as a huge mistake.

It caused a stir when the former Arsenal captain returned to England shortly after leaving the Gunners. He managed one season with Chelsea, where he scored three goals in 21 games. In an Arsenal fan podcast, Aubameyang says he regrets his move to Chelsea.

“It was a big mistake to go there (Chelsea). It was a damn big mistake. At that time, I had a bad period in Barcelona. I had a break-in at home and Barca had to sell a player – me or Memphis Depay – and the only option was Chelsea,” the former Arsenal captain begins.

-So I said okay, for the sake of my family, I’m moving away. Even though it’s Chelsea, I thought maybe it would be okay. Olivier Giroud moved from Arsenal to Chelsea and he didn’t have any problems, but for me it was different,” Aubameyang says in the podcast.

Because this was “damned wrong” for the Gabonese player. We guess the Chelsea management and the supporters drew the same conclusion.
