Who will be Bond remains to be seen… but Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are lifting the veil a bit with their comment that one can expect something “different” from the next James Bond actor.

We’re still nervously chewing on our exploding pens as we wait to see who will be chosen as the next 007 agent, James Bond. But a new interview from the series producers suggests that fans should prepare for change.

Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson spoke to the Associated Press before receiving an honorary Oscar on behalf of the late James Bond producer Albert “Cubby” Broccoli. Although they remained tight-lipped about exactly who would take on the coveted role, they hinted that whoever is announced will be a change from the outgoing Bond, Daniel Craig.

“Every time we cast a new actor, the films change. That’s the excitement of a new Bond, a new direction,” Wilson said. “Each and every one of these people who took on the role offered something new and different.”

Although the actor is currently unknown, the producers have given some hints about what to expect – Bond will still be a man, he will be around his thirties, and he doesn’t necessarily have to be white.

There have been enough rumoured actors ready to take on the role at this point to bring that Double-0 figure up to 099 at this point, with the likes of Idris Elba, Tom Hardy and Henry Cavill long tipped to join the ranks of Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan and Sir Roger Moore as a secret agent.

Recently, the odds have swung in favor of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who is rumored to have impressed producers with a screen test. But when asked by the press, he has carefully avoided anything that could reveal anything at all.

One thing is for sure – despite the new Amazon owners of the franchise, Bond will still be ready for a theatrical release.

“People play it very safe. I think in times of crisis like this, you have to be brave,” Broccoli said of attitudes toward theater races. “It’s definitely a new era in the film industry, so we’re trying to figure it out.”

As for who you want as the next James Bond, you can cast your vote for the rumoured actors on our new 007 shortlist. Personally, I’d love to see Harris Dickinson from Babygirl and Triangle of Sadness fame don a tuxedo!

The coolest would be Idris Elba, but unfortunately it’s been quite a while since he’s been in his 30s.
