When Xavi transitioned from his role as a player at Qatari Al-Sadd to managing the club as a coach, it was a smooth transition to his coaching career, well away from the biggest spotlights. Then a desperate Barcelona president called to bring Xavi back as Barca coach. Xavi turned it down the first time, it was probably a second time as well, but in the end, Xavi couldn’t turn down the cry for help from the club he had served all his footballing life. This reunion started well, then it turned into a bitter quarrel.
In the end, Xavi first announced his retirement after the end of the 2023/24 season, was then persuaded by sporting director Deco and club president Laporta to continue, before Laporta was then annoyed by a statement from Xavi that Barca’s financial situation would affect the sporting results.
Xavi was sent to the gate, after this it has been quiet around the Spaniard. The Barca legend has been linked to several clubs such as Manchester United, Juventus and Inter Miami, but does as Zidane does, sitting calmly without throwing himself in as a savior.
France Football has had Xavi speak for the first time after his exit from Barcelona about the way forward. Here he opens up an opportunity that Barcelona supporters are unlikely to like.
“I haven’t decided on anything. I’m open. Why not coach another team in La Liga? I’m looking for an exciting project and have an ambition to win trophies,” says an aggressive Xavi.
A La Liga club that has the power to win the La Liga title and has a ticket to play in Europe? Not many clubs to choose from.
The title battle in La Liga is traditionally between Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
If we are to interpret Xavi’s statement, he is also keeping the door open for something as unheard of (from the point of view of Barcelona supporters) as offers from the biggest La Liga rivals, including the two giants in Madrid.
We didn’t see it coming!
