“Unfortunately, a story from Kicker has forced us to deny it,” the Bayern Leverkusen management begins, according to the Rheinische Post.
Wirtz’s market value is an extreme 130 million euros (transfermarkt), the giants have been willing to make bids approaching this sum. On Monday, German Kicker Leverkusen and Wirtz have agreed on an extension – not a sale.
The Leverkusen management quickly moves out to give their version.
“We have had a very trusting relationship with Florian Wirtz and his family for many years. As always, contractual matters are discussed exclusively between the club’s management and Wirtz’s family. If changes are agreed to the contract, we will announce it as usual in agreement with Wirtz, the press release reads.
We don’t know if it was the Wirtz camp that demanded a response to Kicker’s version, or if it was Leverkusen who don’t want to scare away suitors willing to pay over 100 million euros for the former academy player. Either way, this means that Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are still in the game.
