On Friday, the door closed for Manchester City. 21-year-old Jamal Musiala was at the top of Pep Guardiola’s wish list along with Florian Wirtz, it was a relieved and grinning Bayern management that could confirm Musiala has opted for an extension at Bayern. Bitter for City, but now it has emerged that there is still an opening in for the Premier League club.

Musiala was presented as Bayern’s big Valentine’s gift to the supporters. A contract until 2030 will keep suitors such as City and other giants at bay. The 21-year-old has nevertheless negotiated a clause that keeps City at arm’s length, but no more.

If there is one thing the Bayern Munich management has always disliked, it is players who expect a buyout clause in the contract. Either you wear the Bayern shirt with loyalty and pride, or you can find another club.

That has changed when the club has to go out and convince a player like Harry Kane to choose Bayern, or one of the world’s greatest attacking talents has to turn down City and the other suitors.

According to German Sky Sports, Musiala has negotiated a buyout clause of around 175 million euros. An astronomical amount, but we have seen before in the wild world of football that this is a signing that can happen.
