The former Aston Villa captain lost his mojo at Manchester City, but has had a “flying start” at Everton.
Everton went to great lengths to bring Manchester City’s Jack Grealish to Hill Dickinson Stadium on an expensive loan deal. It was smart and they couldn’t have asked for a better start.

Grealish has provided four assists in two Premier League games, helping the Toffees to victories over Brighton & Hove Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers, as well as a Carabao Cup second round win over Mansfield Town.
Jack Grealish’s old teammates face Brighton away today, Sunday. At the end of the first half, Erling Br aut Haaland made it 1 – 0. – Which at the time of writing is still the result.
The former Aston Villa captain was picked up by City for £100 million in 2021, going on to collect the expected silver, but was also reduced in the eyes of many observers to a shadow of the unpredictable star he had become at his childhood club.
Grealish’s relationship with City manager Pep Guardiola deteriorated, and his lack of involvement last season left the England international in an untenable position at the Etihad Stadium.
Various clubs showed interest in Grealish in the current summer transfer window, but even a loan represents a massive investment and a significant risk.
Grealish hasn’t been in his best form and has always suffered an annoying injury or two, and there’s no guarantee that David Moyes can help unlock the old Grealish on Merseyside.
But the 29-year-old has had a fantastic start at his new club, and fans have reacted to an Instagram post in which he states that he loves life at Liverpool.
“Ahhh, I really like it!!” the ex-Villa player posted. “What a team and a club.”
Manchester City teammate Erling Haaland responded with “What a player” after the Norwegian posted on his Stories and called Grealish “Jack De Bruyne” after his four assists for Everton.
The very notion of joy seems so at odds with Grealish’s performance at City that fans have interpreted his demonstrable joy as a criticism of Guardiola.
Fans react to Grealish’s joy
“A club that deserves him and a club he loves,”
“Haaland must be the most supportive buddy you can have,” said another.
One fan pointed out that: “He’s been given the freedom to express himself on the pitch and the fans absolutely love him, perfect transition for him, love it.”
“To be freed from Guardiola’s shackles must be a liberating feeling. Pep trains the creativity and talent out of the players,” suggested another commentator.
“Happy for Jack, I have to admit,” admitted another. “Now that he’s not being used as a book-checker for squad registration, he can play football properly again.”
