Arsenal couldn’t postpone Liverpool’s golden celebration in the Premier League. A 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace means that Arne Slot and the gang need one point to crown themselves league champions. Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes a Martin Ødegaard in last season’s form would have decided a game like that.

“He’s a brilliant player, a very good player, but that’s the little detail there. We talked about it during the game and I feel that he is often not in the position he should be. He is supposed to be between links. I think he’s had an average season,” Carragher begins on Sky Sports.

“The season before this one, I looked at him and thought he was about the same level as Kevin De Bruyne. When he got the ball between joints he was always a threat, everything worked, it was like I was seeing one of the best players in the Premier League. Now he is no longer in the dangerous areas, he stays more in a central midfield position. There he distributes good balls, magnificently and neatly, but he is not really a threat,” Carragher analyses.

So far in the season, Ødegaard stands with 2 goals and 6 assists in the Premier League, last season the Arsenal captain was behind 8 goals and 11 assists.

The difference this season has been an ankle injury and some major events in his private life. What Jamie Carragher does not include in the analysis is that the same Ødegaard has led Arsenal to the semi-finals this season, at the expense of the world’s best club, Real Madrid.

So, Ødegaard can’t have become that weak since last season.
