Could superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic make a comeback from retirement to bolster Wrexham’s attack in the Championship?
Wrexham are on the brink of the Championship and their likely promotion – which would be a historic third in a row – will bring with it an obvious need to strengthen their attacking line.
With Paul Mullin on his way out, Ollie Palmer out of favour, and Phil Parkinson’s remaining options either out of contract, at the end of his career, or both, supporters expect co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to go for new signings.

The Red Dragons will undoubtedly be looking for a new goalscorer.
In a strange twist, a former Premier League striker has identified global football star Zlatan Ibrahimovic as a suitable option for the Welsh club. Matt Jansen, who himself played in the top division for Crystal Palace, Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers, believes that Wrexham could be a good fit for Ibrahimovic – despite retiring in 2023.
Ibrahimovic has always remained in top form, but Jansen’s claim is still very bold.
“That would probably suit Zlatan Ibrahimovic, even though he’s retired,” Jansen told Fruity King.
“But money talks, and they can definitely afford it. That would be Hollywood, and he would have liked it, right?”
Jansen pointed to a logical type of striker for Wrexham to secure, but Ibrahimovic – as unlikely as he is – may not be the wildest target he mentioned.
“It has to be that kind of striker, or maybe a big goalkeeper like Chris Wood – but he’s unlikely to leave Nottingham Forest.”

Jansen was also asked if Wrexham or Birmingham City, the two teams that now look set to move up from League One, could go one step further and secure a Champions League spot.
“Anything is possible with Wrexham and they have the support. With the media attention around them, they have a clear plan,” he said.
“I think promotion in a row will be too soon. They will probably try to consolidate first and build on with more signings and more investment.”
“Look at the three teams that are relegated from the Premier League – it’s tougher now for newly promoted teams. But at the same time, Nottingham Forest have managed it. I thought they would struggle this year, but now it looks like they can get Champions League football.”
“So you can never say never, but it will be very difficult. If I had to pick a team that could be promoted two years in a row, it would be Birmingham. They’re a Championship team already, and if they invest wisely, they’ll be even stronger.”
Wrexham are no strangers to promotion in a row – they have already risen from the National League to League One in two years.
Although the owners have seemingly limitless ambitions, the idea that Wrexham could manage four promotions in four years to reach the Premier League is a highly unlikely dream.
But on the other hand – if anyone can, then Zlatan can.
