The son of Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson gets praise out the door after being sacked from Peterborough. Darren Ferguson, has managed English League One club Peterborough United since the spring of 2023.
Now, not surprisingly, he has been sacked, but Chairman Darragh MacAnthony admits he has made a very difficult decision.
“The manager is for me the best coach in the club’s history,” he says on the club’s website.
On Sunday, Peterborough announced that Ferguson will be forced away from the club – after a weak start to the season with ten points from 13 games in the third tier of England.

“The decision was not taken lightly, but it is a decision that I feel is right for the football club. The manager is for me the best coach in the club’s history and I will always consider him part of my and the club’s family. There are too many wonderful moments to mention here, but all the historic and celebrated moments I will cherish and remember forever,” says chairman Darragh MacAnthony and continues:
“We’ve had adversity and it hasn’t always gone according to plan, but he’s led this football club as if it were his own. I am devastated that he is no longer our manager, and will miss our daily conversations about life and football. I wish him and his wonderful family all the love, respect and all the best for the future.”
Ferguson has also previously managed Peterborough between 2019 and 2022, as well as between 2008 and 2009. He has also worked as a manager at the club between 2007 and 2008.
Peterborough are currently at the bottom of League One. In the club plays the Swede Gustav Lindgren, who also has a background from playing in Degerfors IF.
