It started with Mathys Tel. Tottenham reportedly melted off a €60 million bid for Bayern Munich’s disgruntled super talent, but the 19-year-old blocked the transfer. Then the London club turned to Crystal Palace for signing, this time it was the club that put on the brakes.
Things are really boiling at Tottenham. It helped with wins against Elfsborg in the Europa League and Brentford in the Premier League, but it is an understatement that Tottenham are struggling this season. A bunch of injuries, inexplicable losses and a lead-heavy 14th place in the Premier League table (behind even Manchester United!), have caused loud murmurs among Spurs supporters.
Now it was to be replenished with the necessary reinforcement. The Tottenham management has freed up significant funds to secure the right players, but is facing closed doors. First Tel, then Marc Guehi. The Crystal Palace captain was supposed to be secured on Deadline Day, but even a huge bid didn’t get Palace to open the door.
According to The Athletic, Spurs narrowed a bid of £55 million and £15 million in add-ons in the table on Monday, Palace rejected the bid outright. Coach Oliver Glasner should avoid losing his captain and key player in central defence halfway through the season.
The Athletic reports that this sends Spurs to loan Kevin Danso from Ligue 1 club Lens.
