The Colombian midfielder wants to return to Europe to prepare for the World Cup.
Sevilla have started negotiations to sign James Rodríguez, and the Colombian has already given the go-ahead for the transfer. The midfielder, who currently plays for Club León in Mexico, is willing to attempt a third spell in Spanish football – this time under the leadership of Matías Almeyda, who sees him as a potential leader for his new project at Nervión.

After a brilliant performance in the last Copa América, where he was the tournament’s most prominent player despite the final loss, James seemed ready to reclaim his place at club level. But his short stay at Rayo Vallecano left more questions than answers. Problems with the coaching staff and a misalignment with the team’s style of play resulted in an early departure.
Sevilla want to sign James Rodríguez
His subsequent time in Liga MX has not lived up to expectations. Despite arriving with renewed ambition, the Colombian has failed to establish himself or reach the level that led him to the European elite. Therefore, he sees an opportunity for redemption in Seville. But there is one condition: he must terminate his contract with León in order to be able to come to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán for free.
At 34, James still shows flashes of his class and has a strong will to compete at the top level. Almeyda believes he can be a key player – provided he gets continuity and confidence. The Andalusian club is analysing the operation with cautious optimism: if everything falls into place, James could put on the white-and-red shirt in pursuit of his last great adventure in European football.
