Borussia Dortmund boss Hans-Joachim Watzke is friends with Jürgen Klopp. The director is of course disappointed that Klopp did not choose Dortmund when he was about to step down as coach, but understands his friend’s choice of job as manager of several clubs. However, it means that he will never again bring up topics that affect Borussia Dortmund when he meets his friend who will give rival RB Leipzig the best working conditions.
“I am and will always be his friend. Jürgen has done so much for Dortmund, and we have to respect that,” Watzke begins toBild.
“The only thing I’m sad about is that I can no longer talk about Dortmund with him. That doesn’t happen anymore,” the Dortmund director continues.
Before adding that Dortmund were ready to let Klopp write his own job title and job description at the club after his exit from Liverpool.
“We have discussed this a long time ago. Jürgen knows very well that he could have chosen almost any job at Dortmund, but I don’t think he should only be responsible for running a club in the sporting area. It’s something completely different to be part of a project with five or six clubs as a kind of guide than to return to Dortmund,” says Watzke.
Borussia Dortmund supporters are not as understanding as Watzke that their Klopp chose RB Leipzig.
