Out of five club “stays”, Jadon Sancho has had two with success. That says a lot when it comes to the same club. Superstar as a young foal juggler at Borussia Dortmund until 2021. Then a few months on loan at Dortmund for half a season in 2024, this ended in the Champions League final. Manchester United, Chelsea and most recently Aston Villa. Three clubs that have seen far too little of the potential Sancho has shown in the Dortmund shirt. For us, this is a clear indication that the world’s toughest league is simply too tough for Sancho.

Borussia Dortmund were given the opportunity in 2024 to sign Sancho permanently, but withdrew when the transfer fee and Sancho’s salary demands did not measure up to the risk of committing to the player who had played minimal games since 2021.

Now something is going on again. On loan at Aston Villa, Jadon Sancho has once again shown that he has flashes of big games, but no more than flashes. For Dortmund, the situation is completely different from the summer of 2024. Now the 25-year-old has his contract expiring in the summer. Although United have an option to extend, the Bundesliga club is strong in the negotiations.

Man Utd want to get rid of the Sancho problem once and for all, the buying club depends on Sancho not having a mega salary he refuses to cut. Various media claim a transfer to his old club could come as early as January. According to Bild, this is too early. Sancho’s lack of form and financial demands leave the Dortmund management in no hurry.

The market value of Sancho now stands at €25 million, and we’re guessing Dortmund are waiting for their negotiating position to strengthen in line with the Englishman’s lack of deliveries and a short way to contract expiry. We don’t see that a Premier League club is willing to bet on the once goal-poisoned winger. Must be Bundesliga next.
