Real Betis are having success under the ever-young manager Manuel Pellegrini with Brazilian Antony on loan from Manchester United.

The idea from the Brazilian Football Federation that when the 72-year-old has made Antony, who comes high on the list of flops at Old Trafford, seem in record time, could possibly have the same effect on their crisis-ridden national team.

Brazil are in 4th place for qualification for the 2026 World Cup after a 4 – 1 loss to Argentina at the Estadio Mâs Monumental last month.

Brazil are on the hunt for a new national team manager after sacking Dorival Junior, and just like in the previous search, they are looking to La Liga for their preferred candidate – but this time it is not Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Before hiring Dorival in January 2024, the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) was very interested in hiring Carlo Ancelotti, whose future at Real Madrid at the time was highly uncertain. But when the Italian chose to extend his contract, Brazil had to look for other options. Now, however, they are standing on bare ground again.

While CBF is likely still interested in Ancelotti, it won’t be possible to sign him unless he leaves Real Madrid. In the meantime, they have now put the spotlight on another experienced La Liga coach: Manuel Pellegrini.

According to the Chilean website La Tercera (via MD), CBF has contacted Pellegrini.

“What we do know is that an intermediary from the Brazilian national team has contacted Pellegrini’s representatives. We are sure that the Chilean is attracting a lot of interest in the market, especially because of what he has achieved at our club in the last five seasons. What they told us is that Brazil’s interest is serious, but we are also aware that he has a contract here until June 2026.”

Pellegrini’s position at Betis appeared to be under threat a few months ago after a weak first part of the season, but he has turned around both his and Los Verdiblancos’ fate in 2025.

They are well in contention for a Champions League spot for the 2025/26 season, and if that happens, there is little chance that the Chilean coach will want to leave the club – especially since he has a current contract at Benito Villamarín for another 12 months.
