Brentford are reportedly trying to push the total sum for Bryan Mbeumo’s transfer to Manchester United up to £63 million, while there are signals that negotiations between the clubs will soon be concluded.

Mbeumo rejected Tottenham, Arsenal and Newcastle

The Cameroonian international has turned down interest from the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Newcastle to instead become Manchester United’s second summer signing.

Previous reports suggested that United would pay £60 million for Mbeumo, but according to the London Evening Standard, Brentford are now trying to reach a final deal of £63 million including bonuses.

This would make the transfer one of the most expensive in the club’s history – and possibly surpass the £62.5 million Manchester United paid Wolverhampton for Matheus Cunha earlier in the transfer window.

Salary of £250,000 a week

According to sources, United will pay:

  • £55 million (approx. NOK 730 million) advance
  • Up to £8 million (approx. £110 million) in bonuses

Mbeumo is expected to earn £250,000 a week, which will make him one of the highest-paid players at Old Trafford.

Could debid against Leeds in July

The 25-year-old will join United in time for their pre-season on July 7, and could make his first appearance for the club in the friendly against Leeds on July 19.

Mbeumo impressed strongly for Brentford in the 2024/25 season with 20 goals and 9 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.

The role of United’s new system

Under Ruben Amorim, Mbeumo is expected to play as number 10 in a 3-4-3 system, with Cunha on the opposite wing and possibly a new striker up top.

He leaves Brentford after 242 appearances, 70 goals and 51 assists – of which 42 goals and 30 assists came in the Premier League.

Premier League debut against Arsenal?

If all goes as planned, Mbeumo could get his first official game for United away to Arsenal on August 17.
