Brentford are promoted from their own ranks – Keith Andrews will be the new manager.

Brentford have chosen to look inwards to find Thomas Frank’s successor. Keith Andrews (44) now takes over the head coaching responsibility after impressing as a set-piece specialist at the club.

Following in some big Danish shoes

“Keith is a very good fit,” director of football Phil Giles told Brentford’s side.

“He gets along with everyone, he’s very open and learns a lot. Keith is clear about what he wants, he is accurate, and the players and staff like and respect him.

“He understands the players in the building and the way we have played and trained under Thomas Frank.

“Keith will contribute with his own development, but not starting from scratch, so hopefully we can make some quick progress.

“He is a very good coach and has clear ideas about how he wants the team to improve. We were looking for someone who could not only maintain what we’ve been doing, but actually try to be better.”

This will be Andrews’ first head coaching job. The Irish coach has previously been an assistant coach for MK Dons, the Irish national team and Sheffield United. He was brought to Brentford in the summer of 2023 to strengthen the team’s set-piece play, and has now gained the club’s trust to take over full responsibility.

Frank strongly mimics track

Andrews takes over from Thomas Frank, who was recently hired as Tottenham’s new head coach. The Danish coach led Brentford from 2018 and was the architect behind the club’s promotion to the Premier League. Under his leadership, Brentford finished in an impressive 10th place last season.

Norwegian squad affiliation

Brentford’s squad still includes Norwegian international Kristoffer Ajer. The defender has been a part of the club since the summer of 2021.

Tough series opener awaits

Andrews and Brentford will have an immediate test when they open the Premier League season away to Nottingham Forest on August 17.

Why is this interesting?
