Manchester United fought their way to victory again on Sunday. This time against Crystal Palace and one of the top candidates for the permanent coaching job at Old Trafford, Oliver Glasner. Michael Carrick continues to show the United management that they will have no reason to look outside the club after the end of the season. At the same time, they are working hard to maneuver themselves into position to sign this summer’s crucial reinforcements. It is especially in midfield that the big battle stands.
Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, plus three or four other midfielders are linked to United’s renewal in the middle. According to the Manchester Evening News , the Red Devils have a natural signing target at West Ham.

Several West Ham players have been linked to United, the local newspaper highlights Mateus Fernandes as particularly relevant. According to the Mirror , West Ham are in such a big financial mess that the club, regardless of whether relegated or not, is forced to sell players. The Manchester Evening News believes Fernandes will be a natural target for United, who were already heavily linked with the Portuguese in January.
Fernandes joined West Ham from Southampton in a £42 million transfer in August 2025, and has been one of their best players during what has been a tough season. Signing the Portuguese is seen as a repeat of the successful signings of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha last summer.
