Bruno Fernandes is being considered to leave Manchester United after turning down a move to Saudi Arabia in the summer transfer window.

After United suffered defeat in the Europa League final and finished 15th in the Premier League, their captain was heavily guarded by Al Hilal – who were willing to fork out £100 million for his services.

His Portuguese teammates Joao Cancelo and Ruben Neves play for Al Hilal, and Fernandes’ agent, Miguel Pinho, travelled to the Middle East for discussions.

However, despite the interest and a lucrative salary proposal – Fernandes eventually opted to stay following talks with his wife and United boss Ruben Amorim.

“It would be easy to move there,” Fernandes said at a press conference in July.

“I know the Portuguese players there very well. But I want to play at the highest level and compete for big titles. I can, and I still want to. I’m very passionate about football.”

The former Sporting CP midfielder has made eight appearances in the Premier League, scoring two goals and securing his first assist this season for Harry Maguire’s winning goal against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

The win moved United up to ninth place in the Premier League, but speculation surrounding Fernandes’ future persists – with a new report claiming that Bayern Munich want to sign Fernandes.

The Bundesliga leader is thriving under Vincent Kompany, having won all his games in all competitions this season.

According to Keith Wyness, former CEO of Everton who now works with elite level clubs through his own football consulting firm, Bayern are already preparing an offer for Fernandes in the future.

“I think Bayern Munich are going to be the ones to register their interest in him,” he said on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

“One of my good sources has told me that bids are already being prepared. They look at the numbers, and Bruno wanted to go to Germany. I think he would be a great success there as well.”

“Bayern Munich, we’ve all seen Harry Kane in great scoring form recently. I think Fernandes would do well there and I think that’s what’s going to happen.”

“It would also be good for United to renew that area. Even though he’s been a great performer for them, I think it’s something they need to look at for the future to try and reset that midfield.”

Fernandes signed a new contract with United in 2024, which ties him until 2027 – although the club has the option to extend the deal for an additional year.

Under Amorim, Fernandes has played out of position as a central midfielder in his 3-4-3 system.

Since joining in 2020 for a transfer fee of £47 million, he has scored 100 goals in 299 appearances and become one of the club’s best signings in recent history.
