In 2021, financial constraints forced Barcelona to part ways with the best player of all time. Lionel Messi left the club he loved in tears, then followed two difficult seasons in Paris. At David Beckham and Inter Miami, the joy of playing has returned for the Argentine superstar. Now Messi is used again in the power struggle in Barcelona.
Xavi, among several Barcelona legends, has given his support to Victor Font in the club’s presidential election. In the last election, current president Joan Laporta highlighted Messi’s return as one of the first things he would achieve, Font uses the club icon again in the election campaign.

When Messi signed an extension with Miami until 2028, he posted a photo from his visit to Camp Nou on his social media account in hopes of coming back to play one last time: “I hope one day I can come back, and not just to say goodbye as a player, as I never made it.”
Presidential candidate Font will give the Barcleona supporters and Messi the spectacular reunion.
“Personally, as a Barca fan, I get goosebumps, but it obviously depends on him and what we shouldn’t do is try to use him,” Font told Mundo Deportivo, when asked about a possible Messi return before the World Cup winner retires.

“I think Laporta has done it, and he’s done it many times, and I think he’s done it wrong; the most obvious example was during the election. Another example of a broken promise, and I think Messi should not be used, but Messi needs to know that the first thing I want to do when I win the election is to pick up the phone and call him. It will be the first phone call I make,” promises Barca’s potential next club president.
