Fabio Cannavaro’s short coaching period in Croatia is already over. The Italian World Cup hero has been fired by Dinamo Zagreb after only four months in the job.
Cannavaro, 51, took over as manager of the Croatian top team on December 29. The former world champion and Ballon d’Or winner was supposed to lead the team in the hunt for another league championship, but the results have not been up to scratch.

Poor results led to dismissal Under
Cannavaro’s leadership, Dinamo Zagreb have been a full eight points behind league leader Hajduk Split. The Croatian big club has traditionally been dominant in domestic football, but this season they have struggled to keep up at the top.
Perković takes over
As a replacement, the club has now appointed Sandro Perković as the new head coach for the rest of the season. Perković is an experienced coach in Croatian football and will now try to turn the team’s fortunes around.
Cannavaro, who became legendary as a defender for Italy and won the World Cup in 2006, has had a varied coaching career since retiring as a player. He has previously coached Guangzhou Evergrande in China and the Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, but the stay in Zagreb will now be a short chapter in his coaching career.

It remains to be seen whether the Italian football icon will find a new coaching job in the near future.
